Alzheimer’s Awareness Month Report -2013
We have taken elaborate programmes since we have been observing World Alzheimer’s Month and Day 2013 in bringing awareness to the people on dementia through poster, leaflet campaign, discussions and meetings, rally and in forming voluntary groups and publication on faces on dementia in Bengali version for ASB in propagating our views and news etc.
This year ASB met this day to work on dementia together with other organizations e,g. Leo District Council,315 B2 Dhaka and Mohammadpur SUVO SANGA Dhaka. responses were very quick from all the quarters in making the programmes successful. The activities were being taken in different parts of Dhaka city and in Rangpur Medical College and Thakurgon district in Bangladesh where large number of students and elites attended to grace the occasion. The main topics were Dementia: a journey of caring.
In view of this day and Month a meeting was held on 30th Sept,2013 In the ORC House of Thakurgaon Govt. Boys High School where a large number of students, teachers and elites and journalists attended to make this day successful in a befitting manner.
The meeting was chaired by Md.Jala ud-din President ASB and.Md.Akhtaruzzman Head Teacher of Govt. High School had talked at length of the significance of the day and month.
Apart from this Md. Azizul Haque, Secretary General ASB gave a welcome address in observance of the Day and Month showing on dementia its various importances and to do the needful. Moreover there were others of the Advisory Body of ASB Mr.Hafiz Rashid Alam, Yehea Rouf, Syed Mirajul Hossain Vice President ASB , Mr.Yakub Ali Organization Secretary, Mr. Nural Islam-Joint Secretary ASB and Rabea Begum, Member ASB who spoke on the occasion. Dr.A.M Khairul Kabir, Medical Adviser ASB talked on dementia on its various side as how it affects the people and memory. The meeting was conducted by Mr.Masud Ahmed Subarna, Finance Secretary of ASB.
The speakers talked on the aging people affected all over the globe increasing at a fastest rate. Now 101 million aged people are living in the globe. In the coming years by 2050 their volume will stand at 277 millions. It is a health problem spreads all over the globe. The disease is increasing by every 4 seconds affects the one person and by every year it will affect the 77 lacs people afresh. In a findings it was revealed in the 2010 there are now 3 crores 60 lacs aged people have been suffering from dementia and by 2030 it will jump to 6 crores and 60 lacs and by 2050 it will stand to 11 crores and 50 lacs overall. It is increasing at a fastest rate the affected who are to be served with care, love and affection.

From 1st to 7th September Talking on dementia with Leo District Council,315 B2 Dhaka and Mohammadpur Suva Sanga, Dhaka and in forming voluntary groups.
From 8th to 15th September Leaflet, poster campaign in Dhaka, Rangpur and Thakurgaon.
From 16th Sept to 21st September observing the World Alzheimer’s Day through leaflet and poster campaign and rally In Dhaka.
From 22nd to 30th September. Leaflet, poster campaign and holding meetings in Thakurgaon. Apart from these we met with the Govt. High Officials of Health Department to make dementia to give it a health priority to include it in Govt. Health programmes.
